Here are the last few pictures from Centri-Kid!

The soft-serve ice cream was a daily hit!!

and the Shocco gift shop benefitted greatly from almost 600 kids last week...

and those almost 600 kids joined together in worship every night...
and because soft serve ice cream and cafeteria food gets old... Miss Abby treated everyone to a pizza party...

and the kids went CRAZY!!!

Ariel was in the Drama Track and they performed a skit.

Jasmine, McLain, Rachel and Helen Peake were in Foot Praise and they did some major hand raising and stomping to some great music! The whole congregation went crazy!!

Missions Day

Our kids participated in a Missons Day this past Thursday. We went to the Lauderdale Baptist Association and packed bags of school supplies. This week, the LBA will issue over 400 bags of school supplies to needy families. Our kids thought this project was so fun!

Insta-gator Ranch...

Oh, wow! We traveled down to Lousiana this summer to the Insta-gator Ranch & Hatchery. So. Much. Fun! I will admit that these kiddos definitely picked up those baby gators and were swinging them all over the place and I was terrified... until I received a DARE! So, I had to be a big girl! This was such a fun day!

We started out summer events just a little early this year and even on a Wednesday night!!

Last Wednesday we had a pool party at the home of Ray & Lorraine Long. All of the kids were pretty much shoulder to shoulder in the pool, but hey, who's complaining? It's summer... in a swimming pool... they didn't care :)

Offerings for our Soldiers

This past summer our VBS kids collected over $2000 in change not only to buy items for our soldiers, but also to see our pastor wrestle a crocodile! It was a great week! The money was used to buy items for all of the injured soldiers in Germany and sent to the hospital over there. All of our G.A.'s and R.A.'s and most of the adults all sent cards in the boxes with prayers, words of encouragement, and special thanks for fighting for our great country!

A Summer in Review

We had a big summer this year traveling from Jackson, to the coast, to Schocco Springs, to around town pool parties!! The summer was HOT, HOT, HOT, but OH so much fun!! This school year will be better than ever and I'm so excited to be able to share that with you kiddos and parents! See you Sunday!!

This particular day happened to be Anna Caroline's 7th birthday, so the everyone in the IMAX sang "Happy Birthday" to her!

Glad GLOD

Every morning during "I Can't Wait," the camp staff chose a group leader from one of the churches represented to be the Glad GLOD (group leader of the day). The kiddos had to submit their group leaders name and reasons why they were special to the camp, and the staff chose one of the group leaders. Well... on Thursday, my name was chosen to be the Glad Glod. When I was at FUGE with the FBC youth group, the GLAD GLOD's received a tshirt. As my luck would have it, there wasn't a tshirt anywhere that was being given away... instead I got hot pink glitter hairspray in my hair that I had to wear ALL DAY LONG!! The kids LOVED IT!!

The only bad part of camp is having to wait in the LLOOONNGG line for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As I mentioned earlier, there are over 800 people here and the cafeteria can only seat about 250 at a time. The kids needed a little pick-me-up and we ordered pizza on Wednesday night for dinner. They were in HOG HEAVEN!!

"I Can't Wait" is the morning service for Centri-Kid. This service is LOUD and CRAZY and it gets the kids excited for their day of camp. Each morning, they have a news service, sing songs with Jeff Slaughter (the semi-famous popular VBS MOTIONS guy who demonstrates the songs on all of the VBS videos each year), recognize a group leader of the day and have "screaming" contests. The Great Adventure...

Last night Centri-Kid had a night life party and the theme was "The Great Adventure." This is the biggest Centri-Kid camp on record and there are over 1,000 people at Schocco Springs-- all participating in Centri-Kid. So, they divided the camp and half of the churches are supposed to be decked out in blue and the other half in red for the parties. Our church went all out.... from leopard print tights, to rainbow knee socks, big red sunglasses, and glitter hairspray, our church definitely represented in style. We'll participate in another party tonight... here's to hoping that our team pulls through once again and brings home a victory!

Carson definitely represented us well with "FBC" in blue hairspray!

We have arrived at Shocco Springs in Talladega, AL and we are experiencing our first full day of camp! Please keep us in your prayers this week. There are 29 of us from FBC but over 800 kids are participating in camp this week. Pray for strength and safety for the hot days ahead and pray for our kids-- pray that they will dive into God's word in a way they've never done before. Pray that they'll open their ears and hearts to hear and recieve what God has in store for them this week!!

Vacation Bible School was such a fun week at FBC. We had over 100 kiddos each day and over 50 workers. VBS wouldn't have been possible without the help of all teachers, assistants, decorators, snack providers, money counters, etc. The kids brought over $2000 in offering and Dr. Leake was able to wrestle the crocodile at the worship rally on Friday. A great time was had by all!

Sunday was Mother's Day and our preschoolers wanted to honor their mommy with a tea in our gym. The event was a success and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. Mae Carol has way too much fun!

I'm only posting this picture with Mae Carol's permission... but the whole story and picture are way too funny not to publish on the blog.

At the last GIFT night, Mae Carol and Ms. Julie stopped by to see all the kiddos. The Long kiddos were in the rock garden in Ms. Wanda's room and Raif asked Mae Carol to come out and play. When I turned around, she was already halfway through the window and Julie was begging me to get my camera out. She made it through the window and was playing with Raif whenever she decided to find a seat. She walked over to a Rubbermaid storage bucket that was on its side and was empty and sat down. However, when she sat, the side caved in and Mae fell over.

Edie (all the way in the right side of the picture) is laughing just as hard as Mae!

We were all laughing so hard... even Mae Carol. I told her that I HAD to share this picture on the blog and she said, "well, I just love these children and they are just so sweet to me, so you can do it, I guess!"

The FBC Family got to enjoy a fabulous spring weekend full of Easter festivities. Saturday was our Preschool and Children's ministry egg hunt and it was a huge success. There were so many kiddos there, all having a great time riding ponies, feeding the chickens, BUYING the rabbits and baby chicks, flipping and sliding on the inflatable games and searching for 1,000 easter eggs. Mr. Herb and Mrs. Shirley Troupe were gracious enough to open their homes for us to enjoy the beautiful weather and spend time in fellowship with others. Thank you God for giving us a beautiful weekend to bond with others and to celebrate the Risen One on Sunday!!Brittney & Kathleen

wow! Wow! WOW!! That's all I can say about our fundraiser at McAlister's last night!! We had an OVERWHELMING response from people from our church and people in the community. The kids didn't even care how much money we made... they were just excited because they actually were able to be waitresses and bus boys. Thanks so much for all of your support for our kids that will be participating in camp. They are so excited about getting to spend a week of their summer learning more about God and meeting new friends. We'll be having another fundraiser on May 7, same time, same place! So please mark your calendars!!

Church Bible Drills

One drill down, two to go! The 4th-6th graders that participate in Bible Drills participated in their first church drill this past Sunday. They were phenomenal! They have all worked hard this year and I am so proud of them. Thank you so much Bro. David McCubbin, Ben & Shea Leake for working so much with these kiddos this year. I appreciate your willingness to serve in this area of the children's ministry. Parents, don't forget that the Associational Drills will be THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 5th at PSDBC.

Sharing about Jesus is Fun!!

Last Wednesday night, the 4th-6th grade G.A.'s learned about a fun way to share about Jesus with others. Sharing the word of Christ doesn't have to be boring or very structured in any way... it can be as fun as painting faces and making balloon animals! It looks like they had so much fun! Sunday was a very special day for the children's ministry of FBC-- we hosted a Valentine's Banquet to honor the Senior Adults in the church. The turnout what phenomenal and our kiddos did a superb job of serving drinks, plates, desserts, coffee, and most of all entertaining! Thanks so much to Earl & Jill Aycock who performed as Sonny & Cher, Cheryl Gressett, Paulette & Alana Jones and Barry Germany for helping entertain our senior adults. Also, I can't say thank you enough to Sharon McMullen, Sandra Dennis, Debbie Ivey, Daphne Calhoun, Lou Ann Lamar, Nancy Gibson & Lisa Powell for all of your help in preparing lunch, decorating, cleaning up, etc. We couldn've have done it without you!! Enjoy the slideshow!

I receive a mini-devotional text message from a deacon in our church each and every morning. This morning's devotional said:

Matthew 23:11-12-- "The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted." -- We often think of servanthood as a submissive role with less than desirable connotations. Instaed, we should remember that "the greatest among you will be your servant"... Servanthood isn't a punshiment, it's our calling and our responsibility as Christians. Let's seek ways in which we can serve and make ourselves available to others... remember that "serve" is a verb!

WOW!! What a great devotional to follow up from yesterday's event! Our senior adults do so much for our church and it is so important for us to take time and show them how much they are appreciated! I think they enjoyed themselves greatly!

Fun Night at "The Park"

We had SO MUCH FUN last Thursday night at "The Park" on North Hills! We spent our time playing goofy golf, riding go-carts, playing arcade games, competing on the ever so popular Guitar Hero and spending time with each other. We sang Happy Birthday to Jesus on Sunday at church and celebrated with crafts, christmas carols, cake and a story. It was so much fun! I was talking to a friend at church tonight and she was telling me what her nephew had to say about the party. When asked if he had fun at the Happy Birthday Jesus Party, he replied, "Yeah, but I didn't see Jesus there!!" So cute! Look at the cute pictures from our fun morning!

This past Sunday night, some of the 1st-6th graders, Mrs. Debbie Ivey and I made a trip to visit Mr. Cecil Jones. Mr. Cecil isn't able to come to church as much as he would like, so we took church to him. The kiddos made christmas ornaments for him and decorated a Christmas tree so that we could brighten his day. Merry Christmas, Mr. Cecil! We love you!

R.A. Sunday

Sunday was a very nice day in church. The service was wonderful, we gained a new sister in Christ and our R.A. boys did a GREAT job of taking offering and being greeters and door holders. There were so many R.A.'s here that the R.A. leaders had a hard time finding jobs for them to do! Here are just a few pictures I was able to take before the service started.

The kids worked long and hard on their Christmas musical this past Saturday and Mrs. Carolyn was defnitely "JUMPING FOR JOY" because the kids are doing a fabulous job!! After they practiced, they ate pizza and went to play on the new equipment at Bonita Lakes. The weather was perfect and the kids had SO much fun!! WOW!!! We had a GREAT Saturday at John & Gaile Culpepper's for the Preschool & Children's Ministry hayride. This has to be one of my very favorite events to plan because the children and parents have so much fun! There were so many of you that helped by making candy bags, transporting games, organizing prizes, driving for the hayride, cooking chili, bringing candy & cokes, and working games. I can't possibly thank each of you individually, so...THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! It wouldn't have been a success without your help!

Mr. John & Mrs. Gaile, you truly are a blessing to me and FBC. It was so sweet of you to open your home to me for the week to set up and offer to help in so many ways. You are awesome!

I ordered these really cool Jack-o-lantern bouncy balls for a relay at the Hayride on Saturday. They were laying in my office and John Calhoun and I decided that they should be tested out before the kids used them!! Go ahead, have a big laugh!!! We sure did!

Sheep for India

The 1st-6th graders raised money for India back in March. I challenged the children to collect all of their spare change so that we could put it all together and buy sheep for the families in India. It costs $25 for one sheep, so I thought that if we could raise $100 we would be able to help four families. Boy, was I wrong. The children raised $320.22 and we were able to provide 12 sheep for the families. The children were selling stories, asking family members and coming up with other creative ways to get money! Everyone of the children at FBC love the Lord and enjoy sharing his love in our church, in our community and in our world!!

R.A. Campout

This past weekend, the R.A.'s had a campout. They participated in a World Hunger Walk at Bonita Lakes and were able to earn a patch for their vests. After the walk, they came back to the church gym for good food, ultimate dodgeball, kickball, and many other games. The lights were supposed to be out around 1:00 a.m. and one of the leaders told me yesterday that some of the boys were still awake talking about 2:3o. I think that it's pretty safe to say that a GREAT time was had by all who participated!! Thanks Mr. David, Mr. Coach Cary, Mr. Tommy, Mr. Lan, Mr. Ben and Mr. Mark for spending your Friday night with the R.A.'s. They love ya'll!!!

This past Sunday night, we went bowling at Dixie Bowl Lanes to end our Summer Sunday night activities. We had a lot of fun! Music & Missions Kick-off

Our God is so good! Last night we held our Music & Missions Kick-off at Woodview Swimming Pool and even though the majority of Meridian was covered in rain, we never saw a drop and were able to have a blast! We had a wonderful time eating great food and swimming. At one point during the night, I looked up and saw that a few of our kids were having swimming races in the pool. In a matter of minutes, we were having to split the kids into groups because they were all wanting to participate! I hope you enjoy the video of our FBC Olympians! We had so much fun at our luau last night! A special thanks to Ray & Lorraine Long for opening their home to a huge group of swimmers and parents!!

The "Lazy Luau" usually marks the end of the summer for the kids at FBC. We have had a wonderful summer. Thank you so much for allowing your child to participate with us. Thank you to those of you who chaperoned our trips. A summer full of fun wouldn't be possible without you!

Preschool Playdate Continues!

Today was our third day at Preschool Playdate! This has been such a great program for our children and for our moms and dads!! Summer Has Been So Much Fun!

Wow! What can I say? We have had so much fun this summer traveling to many different places and getting involved in many different things! (Our Summer T-Shirts)

K.I.C.K. (Kids in Christs Kingdom) began this summer in Aliceville, AL at Shark Tooth Creek. The kids had a lot of fun wading in the creeks trying to find many shark teeth. As the summer went on, we found ourselves at Centri-kid (a camp for kids who have completed grades 3-6). God definitely was at work in our lives that week.

We also traveled to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to see what was going on at the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center. We had so much fun that day playing tea party, dressing in old clothes, pretending to work at the grocery store and florist and even producing a news segment. And of course, we couldn't call it a successful summer if we didn't take our annual trip to a MS Braves Game. This is something the kids love to do time and time again. We enjoyed great ballpark food, had great seats and got to enjoy "Friday Night Fireworks!" What a treat!

I hope that you will keep checking back to see more pictures of our kids having a "wild" summer. It's been so much fun. Two more events to go!!
